Interdisciplinary PhD Research and Travel Fund by the Graduate School for Interdisciplinary Studies (GSIS)

The Graduate School for Interdisciplinary Studies (GSIS) is offering up to 12 awards to interdisciplinary PhD students to support them in an interdisciplinary activity which will further their PG research.  The fund is open to any PhD student currently supervised by more than one School.  Applications should clearly state how funds will be used to support interdisciplinary research or activities.

Funding must be used by 31 July 2024 and recipients are required to produce a blogpost or 1–2-page report thereafter, explaining how the funding was used and highlighting how it helped to support or progress their PG studies. This output may be made publicly available on the GSIS website. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until 30 June 2024, or until the fund runs out (whichever comes first) and the maximum amount for any one application is £250.

Equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) project fund

The University of St Andrews is committed to ensuring equality, celebrating and enhancing diversity, and creating an environment where all staff and students feel valued, respected and included as outlined in the Diverse pillar of the University Strategy. To support these goals, the University has created an ‘Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Project Fund’, where staff and students can apply for funds to support projects and other activities that enhance equality and inclusivity within and beyond the institution. The format of activities can be wide ranging, from research projects to workshops, invited speakers, networking activities or other events.

University Community Fund

The University Community Fund enables the University to listen to ideas, adapt to local needs, and provide financial support to deliver tangible benefits for the wider community. The Community Fund accepts applications of between £250 and £3000, including those which:

  • benefit communities in the local area
  • increase engagement between the University and the community
  • promote knowledge exchange and widening participation
  • promote environmental sustainability
  • promote diversity and inclusion
  • celebrate the local area’s heritage, whether physical or cultural

CELPiE Travel Fund

Applications are invited for the CELPiE Travel Fund. Grants of up to £500 are available towards the costs associated with attending a single event relevant to evidence-led practice in education. The fund is open to Academic & Professional Service staff and PGRs who teach and applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.The Community for Evidence-Led Practice in Education (CELPiE) Travel Fund grants can be used towards the costs associated with attending a single event relevant to evidence-led practice in education. Awards with a maximum value of £500 each will be awarded in 2023-2024.

Employability Bursary

The Employability Bursary has now opened for current University of St Andrews students to receive up to £700 to complete work-related experiences.

It can be used for things like:

  • accommodation for internships
  • professional clothing
  • dependants’ care costs
  • development courses
  • travel expenses
  • volunteering.
