St Leonard’s College Postgraduate Travel Award

St Leonard’s Postgraduate College is pleased to announce that the College’s Postgraduate Travel Awards scheme, which supports postgraduate students with any travel that would benefit their research and development, is available again in Academic Year 2025-2026. Applications for the award are open to all postgraduate students who are matriculated at the University of St Andrews for any postgraduate degree.

The grant can cover travel expenses towards travel, accommodation and subsistence for any trips taken up to 15 July 2026.

Up to £300 for each application (exact amount to be confirmed depending on the number of successful applicants, part awards may be made)

Mode of study: Full time, Part time – daytime, including students who study online.

Geographical criteria: No restrictions

Additional criteria

  • Fully matriculated students at the University of St Andrews for any postgraduate degree (including co-tutelle PGR students while they are based at St Andrews, and postgraduate students in online programmes)
  • Applicants will be required to submit:
    • Project outline, including an explanation on how the proposed travel will support the research and development of the student
    • Budget outline
    • Travel booking receipts or travel expenses quotations
    • Short academic reference from supervisor or tutor (alternatively, references can be submitted directly to [email protected])

How to apply

This scholarship will be available through the St Leonard’s College Postgraduate Travel Award application in the Scholarships and Funding catalogue, in the Scholarships and Funding section in MySaint. The application will open in October 2025.

The deadline for applications is Monday 1 December 2025.

If applying to this award, please be aware of the following requirements:

  • The grant will cover travel expenses towards travel, accommodation and subsistence for any trips taken up to 15 of July 2025, and can include participation to conferences.
  • Awards cannot be used for payment of University tuition fees (except for Summer School or Short course fees) and of University accommodation fees, or for the purchase of books, stationery or similar consumables.
  • All students need to make sure that the proposed project and trip has the support of the applicant’s supervisor or programme co-ordinator, and will not interfere with their studies.
  • Applications should relate to travel which takes place between 1 September 2025 and 15 July 2026. Retrospective applications (i.e. applications for travel already undertaken) will be acceptable, up to the final deadline.
  • Successful applicants are required to submit to St Leonard’s College:
    • A detailed report on how the funds were spent.
    • A report on how the trip has benefited their studies and development, which can include photos (St Leonard’s College reserves the right to publish this report or parts of it to the College’s website or other media).
  • St Leonard’s College Postgraduate Travel Award can only be awarded to a student once per academic year.

  • Current and past academic record
  • Relevance of the proposed project to your field of studies and/or your future development
  • Academic reference
  • Consequences of the student not taking part in the proposed activity
  • Applicant should demonstrate that other avenues of funding have been explored. It is possible to use the St Leonard’s College Postgraduate Travel Award to supplement funding from other sources.

Please be aware that any application for funds may be partially awarded.

When will I know the outcome?

Students will be notified of the outcome of their applications about two weeks after the deadline.

Applications will not be assessed before the deadline.
