Assistant Warden opportunity (PGR students)
Student Services are advertising for an opportunity for an Assistant Warden, with applications closing 24 June 2025.
Assistant Wardens are part of University accommodation’s Halls Life team. The team are an essential part of the student experience at the University of St Andrews. Warden help define student life in each residence by acting as mentors and adviers.
Applicants are required to hold another substantive role elsewhere in the University, as a staff member or matriculated postgraduate student, and will not be able to continue as Assistant Warden should the substantive role come to an end.
The assistant warden role
Assistant wardens live in the halls and:
- are the first point of contact for advice and personal support to residents
- help develop a strong and supportive community and hall identity
- help to run events and activities
- help students settle into university life
- maintain health and safety in the residence
- receive first aid training
Assistant wardens give physical, mental, and emotional support to residents. They do not give medical support, other than in emergencies.

Assistant wardens get a 100% refund on accommodation costs during term time and 50% during vacations, and they receive a staff ID card to get staff discounts.
