College joins Sustainability week with ‘Denim Upcycling’ event in partnership with Transition.
Tuesday 29 October 2024 saw the College’s first joint event with Transition as part of the University’s Sustainability week. The College’s Coordinator Hazel Grapes led a workshop looking at ways in which denim can be upcycled into bookmarks/decorations, storage pots, reusable makeup pads and even into handbags!
A mix of students and local people attended, alongside Anya Hart Dyke (Transition’s Skillshare Coordinator and Project Officer) who provided a selection of worn out jeans from Transition’s clothing donations.
The group created a range of lovely items, and Hazel explained to the group how the fabric of denim is made up, how much fabric and parts can be striped from a pair of jeans and how denim can be used in different ways (even when the pair of jeans are no longer wearable!).
