The University is taking part in this year’s Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey (PTES). It is a national survey of postgraduate taught students inviting you to comment on your course and experience. The questionnaire takes about 15 minutes to complete.

The Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey gives Postgraduate Taught students the chance to give your thoughts about your course and overall experience in St Andrews. The results will help the University compare how we are doing with other institution, to make changes that will improve what we do in future and to keep doing things that you value.

How will PGT students take part?

The survey will open on Monday 17 March 2025 and close on Friday 13 June 2025.

To take part in the survey, students will need to follow the individual link sent to you by email.

What does the survey cover?

Survey questions cover the following topics:

  • The experience of teaching and learning, including: staff, learning materials, working with other students
  • Engagement on the course
  • Community
  • Assessment and feedback
  • Dissertation/Project support
  • Organisation and management of the course
  • Resources, including learning resources
  • Support, including academic skills, IT and wellbeing
  • Skills development
  • Overall experience

What happens to the results?

Over one hundred universities and colleges take part in the UK and globally.  This means the University can compare the experience of our PGT students against similar postgraduate at other institutions to see if we are supporting your learning as we should. We use the findings to improve our courses and the learning experience for future students.
