50th Anniversary Activities

To celebrate the 50th Anniversary since the reconstitution of St Leonard’s College, we are organising a variety of activities and events, to bring together and celebrate our postgraduate community, both current students and alumni of the College.

- Service of Commemoration of St Leonard at St Leonard’ Chapel (Sunday 3 November 2024, 6.00pm)
- The service featured a new musical composition written specifically for the occasion and to mark the 50th Anniversary of St Leonard’s College. The piece is called ‘Canticle of Blessed Hope‘, and was composed by Luis Meseguer Mira, a music composer, choir conductor and cultural journalist, whose “music is a bridge between the earthly and the spiritual”. Luis is studying for an MLitt in Sacred Music at the University of St Andrews, and holds an Assistant Conductor Scholarship, a Scholarship by Fundación SGAE and a Scholarship by Alfred Dunhill Links Foundation.

- Celebrity piano concert by Fali Pavri celebrating the creative partnership between the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and the University of St Andrews and the 50th Anniversary of St Leonard’s College (Sunday 24 November 2024, 3.00pm, McPherson Recital Room, Laidlaw Music Centre)
- St Leonard’s College through the ages (1512-2024): A drop-in exhibition on the history of St Leonard’s College at Martyrs Kirk Research Library (Thursday 28 November, 2.30pm to 4.00pm)
- Virtual exhibition: St Leonard’s College through the ages, 1512-2024
- A digital exhibition that allows users to explore virtually the history of St Leonard’s College and postgraduate life at the University of St Andrews through documents and objects from our Collections and Museums.
- 50th Anniversary St Leonard’s College Lecture: Professor Dame Anne Glover DBE on “Why Evidence Matters” (2 December 2024, 5.30 to 6.30pm at the Medical Sciences Building, Booth Lecture Theatre)

- For All Time – by Peter Johnstone, commissioned by St Leonard’s College
- A musical postcard, composed by Peter Johnstone and performed by current staff and students from the University of St Andrews and Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and celebrates the 50th Anniversary and the partnership between both institutions.
- Celebration of the research contribution and successes of postgraduate students of the University through a digital showcase
- Fundraising to support postgraduate students, as part of Making Waves: The Campaign for St Andrews, with particular emphasis on promoting widening participation at postgraduate level
