Earlier this year, the Universities of St Andrews, Aberdeen, Durham, and Glasgow secured £3M to deliver NETGAIN, a NERC-funded Doctoral Focal Award focusing on developing the science and practice of nature markets. The success of NETGAIN can undoubtedly be traced back to the level of genuine co-development of the proposal, in which many of St Andrews staff and PGR were involved. The team are very grateful for all the input received, and is working towards delivering the proposed needs- and partner-led program of science and training.

NETGAIN will formally launch this summer at the inaugural NETGAIN Annual Meeting and project incubator on Thursday 19 June 2025 in St Andrews, Scotland. This event will be the first step towards building a partnership network of leading industry professionals, researchers, and academics and will focus on fostering collaboration, innovation, and project development.

Interested students and staff who would like to learn more about the project and the opportunities it presents are invited to register their interest.

This gathering marks the beginning of an exciting journey to co-develop a transformative research agenda around the science and practice of net gain. Your expertise and perspective are crucial to shaping the direction of this programme, and to identifying impactful research opportunities. We would be delighted if you could join us in St Andrews for the inaugural NETGAIN Annual Meeting and Project Incubator.

The event will include scene-setting keynote speakers, project pitches from NETGAIN partners from industry, outlining knowledge gaps, skills and research needs; from government, outlining policy gaps and evidence needs; and from academia, outlining existing research activity and opportunities. There will be facilitated co-development sessions to develop new NETGAIN PhD projects.
